Spring Briefing Wrokshops 2010
The spring briefing workshops have been scheduled at seven locations across the state, to be held during the two-week period from May 26- June 8. These dates were purposely selected to be after the Governor’s May Revision to the budget proposal and after the May meeting of the State Board of Education.
In an era where every year seems to be more turbulent than the past, this year is no exception. These workshops are designed to give local education leaders a “heads up” on what to expect for the coming year, with information integrated across fiscal and program issues. We will provide updates on the state budget, Race to the Top, the new open enrollment program, school accountability, low-performing schools, common core standards, instructional materials, and other important topics.
The Spring Briefing will provide the latest information on issues of concern to curriculum and instruction leaders. As usual, the workshop will cover the "Top Ten" issues in education.

“I have participated in the CISI state conferences twice a year and receive the CISI email briefings. The information from conferences and briefings are always current and presented in a manner I can easily understand and use in my daily work. Peter has a unique ability to take Legislative, CDE, Legal, and Fiscal guidance and translate it into language that I can understand an use daily as an instructional leader. In these hard budget times, CISI would be the last service I eliminate. By far it is the more cost effective way to get the most accurate information and guidance.” Robin Schmitt, Director of Programs and Intervention Antioch USD
“As I became increasingly selective about conference or meeting attendance, I continue to keep the CISI Spring Briefing and the Fall Program Update on the top of my list. In 2 ½ hours, Peter Birdsall’s insight perspective and occasional speculation provides the latest updates on all state, federal programs, funding sources, and the potential effects of politics on legislation with implications for future funding for policy and program direction. Peter provides big picture perspective which enhances my visionary leadership in a rapidly changing political and financial model impacting education” Dr. Lynn Bogart, Assistant Superintendent of Education Services—Huntington Beach City School District
“Mr. Birdsall’s presentations are always relevant, engaging, and current, invaluable to me as Superintendent”- Ed Gonzalez, American Union School District.
